I am a "Ramón y Cajal" postdoctoral researcher working at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in Madrid, Spain, and I am part of the research group Linguistics and Cognitive Science (LyCC), which is lead by Violeta Demonte.

Before that, I was a postdoc at the Department of Linguistics of the University of Chicago , at the Graduiertenkolleg Satzarten: Variation und Interpretation at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe Universität - Frankfurt, and at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra.

Previously, I had defended the PhD thesis "Wh-exclamatives in Catalan" at the Universitat de Barcelona with supervisors Xavier Villalba (CLT-UAB) and Louise McNally (GLIF-UPF).

Highlights

Check out the workshop the LyCC is organizing in Madrid! It's called MDF2011 and it is about modification and modifiers. The workshop dates are December 15 and 16 2011, and the invited speakers are Louise McNally (GLIF-UPF), Marcin Morzycki (Michigan State) and Chris Potts (Stanford). The program has already been announced. More information here.

Research interests

I am a linguist, love natural languages and I think the most exciting part of this job is to try to figure out the compositional meaning of linguistic constructions. Here is a list of topics I'm interested in:

  • Exclamative clauses
  • Non-truth-conditional meaning
  • Semantics and pragmatics of non-declarative clauses
  • Syntax and semantics of degree
  • Cross-linguistic semantics
  • Sentential mood and illocutionary force
  • Romance linguistics
  • Theoretical linguistics

Another area in which I am interested is language diversity. More specifically:

  • Endangered languages
  • Field methods
  • Syntactic typology
